Supermarket introduces dress code for shoppers

Sometimes, you just can't make it up as good as the real thing.
Check this story out, apparently  chav-heaven supermarket mecca Tesco has introduced a dress code for shoppers in response to the  ever increasing number of women, particularly hailing from Cardiff, who  have taken to shopping in their nightwear after dropping their children off at school in the morning.  I wonder if this phenomena happens anywhere else in the world, or if it is a very Blighty-centred thing. The US have a monopoly on alien abductees,  but will  the UK  corner the  making-an-effort abductee market?
A store spokesman said: ‘We do not have a strict dress code but we don't want people shopping in their nightwear in case it offends other customers.
‘We're not a nightclub with a strict dress code, and jeans and trainers are of course more than welcome.
‘We do, however, request that customers do not shop in their PJs or nightgowns.
'This is to avoid causing offence or embarrassment.’
Of course,  we are not talking about women turning up in vintage slips, or La Perla silk pyjamas, or Kimonos. We are talking about those horrendous, almost adult-size children type PJs, with naive illustrations.  And to make things worse, they team them with socks and slippers. I mean how fucking lazy is that.
The Daily Mail - which is always on the look out for a pond life story -  managed to locate one of these PJ shoppers, who was sent packing today after turning up in her PJs again.
This is the truly bonkers soundbite she (pictured here in full regalia) supplied them with:
'I just don't understand it. I go in other shops in my pyjamas and they don't say anything.
'You used to always be allowed in Tescos. But not now, it is ridiculous and stupid. I've got lovely pairs of pyjamas, with bears and penguins on them. I've worn my best ones today, just so I look tidy.'
Versace would be turning in his grave...

Diana - what do u make of this? Live and let live or what? It's the socks with open-toed water absorbant slippers which killed me.

  1. Tallulah, darling, don't forget what George Bernard Shaw said, maybe
in Man and Superman: All dress is fancy dress. Why are fairly clean
jammies any worse than tees and painter pants? There's a trend here,
by the way, among college students - they roll right out of bed in
their PJs and head to class.

  2. That's hilarious! My husband told me about this but I'd missed it. We'd just come back from Miami & I've been having trouble adjusting to the cold. I got these great cream men's thermal long underwear (top & bottom) & wanted to wear it out - accessorising, of course - and he said I'd get arrested.

I'm tempted to do a post about it, but I'd need photos. Clever blog you've got, Tallulah! Hope to hear from you again. x
