Madame Lash and the Immaculate Misconception

The Sydney Burlesque scene really rocks - check out these pictures from about three years,  which were taken at The Kirk - an infamous location in Sydney. 

Formerly a  church, it became the scene for some very un-churchy activities when it was bought by Madame Lash (more about her soon) in the early 80's. For over 2 decades,  the venue has  hosted all kinds of burlesque and vaudevillian acts - as well as some soft-core fetish nights which gave the place a bad reputation.

There to capture the scene in full technicolor was  celebrated photographer Loulou Whelan. One of the best photographers I have come accross.
